Edit Notes

Developed by Rockstar North and released in October 2004, San Andreas is the seventh installment in the Grand Theft Auto series and a landmark in open-world gaming. It expanded the genre with unprecedented scale, featuring a map roughly five times larger than its predecessor, Vice City. The game drew inspiration from real-world locations like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, with on-site research enhancing its authentic 1990s atmosphere. Innovations included a character progression system where actions like gym workouts or dieting affected CJ's abilities, alongside deeper RPG elements. Later updates, such as The Definitive Edition, modernized visuals with enhanced lighting, textures, and controls while preserving the original's cultural impact. Despite controversies, it remains celebrated for its storytelling and freedom.

How To Play

Players navigate San Andreas from a third-person perspective in an open-world environment, completing over 100 story missions and numerous side activities. Core mechanics include driving a wide range of vehicles—from bicycles to airplanes—with licenses required for some, engaging in combat using melee or firearms that improve with use, and managing CJ's stats like stamina and muscle through gym visits. The game introduces role-playing elements: eating maintains health, but overindulgence leads to weight gain, while skills in driving or shooting level up with practice. Side content features diverse mini-games such as gambling in casinos, basketball, and dancing, adding replayability. Players can customize CJ's appearance with clothing, hairstyles, and tattoos, which influence interactions and mission success. The world reacts dynamically to player choices, with police chases escalating based on wanted levels, fostering a sandbox experience where exploration and chaos coexist.

Description

Set in the early 1990s, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas follows Carl "CJ" Johnson as he returns to his hometown of Los Santos after five years away. Upon learning of his mother's murder, CJ finds his family and childhood gang, the Grove Street Families, in disarray. Framed for homicide by corrupt police officers, he embarks on a journey across the vast state of San Andreas—modeled after California—to uncover the truth, rebuild his gang, and reclaim control of the streets. The game explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and survival within a gritty urban landscape filled with rival gangs, crime syndicates, and systemic corruption. With its sprawling open world encompassing three major cities—Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas—the title immerses players in a dynamic narrative driven by CJ's quest for justice and power.
