A key aspect is forming or joining Clans with other players. Clans (up to 50 members) work together: donating troops to each other, chatting, and participating in Clan Wars where they battle other Clans as a team. Clans can also build and upgrade a shared Clan Capital.

Players build and upgrade their village using resources like Gold and Elixir. This involves constructing defensive structures (towers, cannons, walls, traps) and training a variety of troops (Barbarians, Wizards, Dragons, etc.). The primary way to gather resources is by attacking other players' villages to steal their loot. Players must also defend their own village from attacks by other players.
